New Years Eve When Pregnant Funny
Being pregnant on New Year's Eve can be a tricky business; But there's no need to panic - we have you covered! Take a look at our ultimate New Year survival guide and learn how to ease your way through the big night in comfort, without cutting down on the fun!
1. Drinking
If you're very recently pregnant, you may not have told many people yet – especially if you haven't had your twelve-week scan; which could result in a number of awkward questions as to why you're not drinking (we've all been there!).
If you have made your news public, great! However, if you're still keeping the pregnancy under wraps, you could choose a mocktail as a way of avoiding questions – after all, nobody will know what's in your glass!
Take a look at our favourite mocktail recipes here!
2. Party food
There's quite a few foods to avoid during pregnancy, so it's worth finding out beforehand what you will be eating so you can be sure exactly what's in the dishes.
Oh and top tip: have a snack before leaving for the party, just in case you really don't fancy or can't eat what's on offer.
3. Dancing
If you want to get on the dance floor and have good time, think ahead about how your legs and feet will feel at the end of it!
If you have found that your legs get extra tired or you suffer from swollen ankles and aching feet, choose some good support tights (there are lots of fab maternity ones now available in the shops) and comfortable shoes.
There are some lovely shoes, ballet pumps and flats around – not to mention boots – that have padded inner soles. Your feet may get bigger when you're pregnant too, so check your shoes still fit if you haven't worn them in a while.
Take plenty of breaks and be sure to drink lots of fluids to avoid getting dehydrated.
4. People asking to touch your bump
It's the age-old problem; some people, when they see a pregnant woman feel it's fine to touch their bump. Some of us don't mind but for many, it's an invasion of personal space and just a bit too intimate – especially if it's someone you've just met.
If you're not happy about being touched, say so – it's your bump, after all. If you feel you need to make an excuse rather than just saying "no", say that you're just off to talk to someone or popping to the loo!
5. Tiredness
If you really want to keep going until the countdown to 2018 and the inevitable singing of Auld Lang Syne; pace yourself.
Have a nap in the afternoon before heading off to the party and take plenty of breaks.
If you're the host, be sure to get plenty of help from your partner to get things organised on the day.
And why not ask other people you've invited to bring along a couple of dishes of food and drink so that you don't have to spend hours in the kitchen.
If you really do need to flake out for a little while, have a lie down and ask someone to wake you for the countdown to midnight.
6. Get comfy
Try to find the most comfortable seat in the room when you get to the party and don't give it up – get your partner or friends to bring you snacks and soft drinks.
Also think about your clothes. Avoid anything that cuts in, is too tight or too hot – many pregnant women find they get hot really easily during pregnancy.
Unless you're going to a party that requires formal dress, a great pair of maternity jeans and a pretty top is the way to go; or leggings and a tunic.
Staying home?
If you really can't face going out and partying until midnight, perhaps you and your partner could have a nice quiet evening at home.
You're looking forward to a pretty amazing year anyway with a new baby on the way!
Cook a tasty meal or get a supermarket meal deal, put your feet up and watch one of your favourite films and welcome the New Year in, in comfort.
